WE ARE VERY EXCITED to offer you an opportunity to learn to surf and body board in the Atlantic Ocean! This will be our 9th year hosting WAVE Surf Camp. Camp will be held in the beautiful beach town of Nags Head, on what is called the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We suggest you do everything you can to come! WAVE Surf Camp is for boys ages 12 - 18. Not only will you be taught how to surf and body board you’ll also form new friendships, see a historic part of the country and experience awesome times of learning about God and life. This event will be a truly unique camp for ocean lovers landlocked in the Midwest! Keep in mind our camp is for beginners and intermediates. You do not need to know how to surf in order to attend, we’ll teach you. Are you up for the challenge? Please carefully read the information below. Show this letter to your parents and discuss it with them. Don’t delay, space is limited. Please send your $100 deposit, school type photo (first year applicants only), application and medical release form to the above address by April 14. DATES: June 14 - 21, 2009. Five action packed days of water fun! EQUIPMENT: Please bring a body board. They can be purchased at local sporting goods stores or your local big box retailer. You may bring other things to use in the water as well - goggles, mask, fins, snorkel, raft, skimboard, etc. The water will be a bit cool, especially when you are in it for long periods of time. So, purchase of a wetsuit is advisable, but not mandatory. You will need to also purchase a rashgaurd. This is a lycra/nylon form fitting t-shirt you wear while surfing to prevent a chest rash from prolonged contact with the surfboard. DAILY SCHEDULE: Breakfast, 5-30 minute ride to the beach, set-up, beach quiet time, surf/body board instruction, eat lunch on beach, surf/body board, shower, eat dinner, hang out, nightly music and teaching, video or recreational activities, hang out, go to bed. There will be five days of surfing/body boarding, along with sightseeing locally and a Saturday night baseball game in Washington D.C. at the Nationals Stadium. CAMPER INFORMATION: For boys ages 12 - 18. Beginner & intermediate surfer/body boarders. Please send a school type photo of yourself (first year campers only) with your $100 deposit, application and medical release form. Attendance is limited to 35 campers and 5 adult staff for a total of 40. LODGING & SURFING LOCATION: We sleep and have our meetings at The Ark International Church, Nags Head, NC. We shower at the YMCA next to the church. We surf at Bonnet Street, Nags Head, Jeanette’s Pier, Frisco and any other beach where the waves are kickin. TRANSPORTATION: You are responsible to provide your own transportation to Joliet, IL. FREE shuttle service between Joliet and Chicago O’Hare or Midway Airport and lodging will be provided. Over the years we’ve had campers from 10 different states, as far away as Colorado and Lousiana. If you are flying in please arrive on Saturday, June 13 between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Plan your departure on Monday, June 22 after 1:00pm. If you live anywhere along the route we’ll be traveling to Nags Head we can pick you up. Please call, 815-726-5426, for routing information. We’ll depart First Church of the Nazarene, Joliet, IL June 14 at 1:00pm via one 25 passenger shuttle bus, towing a trailer, and a 15 passenger van. Both vehicles are thoroughly checked out prior to departure and will be traveling together. Photos of the vehicles are available. We’ll arrive in Nags Head at 8:00am on Monday and depart the Washington D.C. area on Saturday June 20 at Midnight. Arrival at First Church of the Nazarene, Joliet, IL is expected at noon on Sunday, June 21. COST: Only $289.00! Includes: 8 days away from home, 20 meals, group lodging at a local church, showers at the YMCA, daily surfing instruction, camp T-shirt, transportation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and back, daily shuttle to beach, surfboard/kayak rental, sightseeing, MLB baseball game, camp memory photo CD-ROM & DVD, recreational activities, nightly worship & Bible study. **Check the internet and you’ll find most camps offering this much charge three times the price. A non-refundable $100 deposit is due by April 14. The balance is due by May 21. Spaces are filled on a first come first served basis. The sooner you send your deposit the sooner you are guaranteed a spot. If you send your deposit and spaces are filled you will be put on a waiting list. If no spots open up your deposit will be refunded. If you drop out after May 21 funds are non-refundable, unless someone can be found to take your place.
